A Time to Sing

2021

This piece was born as a result of a request from the Alzheimer’s Society when I signed up for the 2018 Manchester 10K Run. It actually coincided with my dear Father-in-Law Bert’s onset of dementia which had been on the horizon for quite a while. At this time, he was still very much coherent, and I include a lovely photo here of my visit to see him after the Run and him wearing my medal. Bert has since passed RIP, but he was a wonderful gentle soul that I will never forget. Of course, I did the run in Bert’s name and the money I made went to the Alzheimer’s Society. I also donated the Single itself to the Alzheimer’s Society in perpetuity so anything earned from it’s sales will go directly to them.
The Run itself was a bit of a milestone for me personally as it was the first time, I had run a 10K. I had been training consistently with my Coach Aoife for a few years but before this Race my limit had been 5K. My Son Gary and his partner the lovely Lindsey did the run with me and somehow helped me cross the finish line. We went to a shop on Deansgate for a chilled G&T Mix that Gary had promised when we crossed the finish line. It tasted like the nectar of the gods.
A mention here for all those who lost their lives to a terrorist attack that Summer at the Ariana Grande concert in the Manchester Arena.
The piece itself is meant to be full of joy and hopefully comes across as such. Produced by Brendan Keely in his Tullamore Studio. Written and performed by yours’s truly and most instruments played by me. I am especially proud of the Piano in this piece.
The Artwork is used by kind permission of my best friend Elena. In the foreground is Riccardo her son. Elena is a fine photographer with a good eye this photo was taking in Mazzini, Ferrara Italy in 2016.
